Commercial motorcyclist, 31, arraigned over alleged bag-snatching at bus stop

Lagos, Aug. 23, 2017 (NAN) For allegedly snatching a handbag at a bus stop,  31-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Ndubisi Ogana, was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

Ogana, who resides in Abule-Egba area of Lagos, is facing a charge of stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Victor Eruada, said the accused committed the offence on Aug. 1 at Ajiboye Bus Stop, Agege.

He said the accused attacked the complainant, Mrs Eunice Oladele,at the bus stop and snatched her handbag containing a phone valued at N7,000 and N3,500.

“The accused attacked the complainant at the bus stop while waiting for a motorcycle to take her to her destination.

“Suddenly, the accused crossed her and snatched her bag. The complainant raised alarm which attracted some people, who chased him.

“The accused hit a pole and fell off his motorcycle, leading to his arrest,” he told the court.

The offence contravened Sections 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section prescribes a three-year jail term for offenders.

The Magistrate, Mrs G.O. Anifowoshe, admitted the accused to bail of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until Aug. 30 for mention. (NAN)
