Ikeja, March 14, 2018 (NAN) A 37-year-old commercial driver, Olufemi Ojo, who allegedly attempted to steal a car valued at N1.8 million, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Ojo, who resides at Gbadamosi Obafunke Street, Akinyele, Ipaja, a Lagos suburb, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The Police Prosecutor, ASP Edet Okoi, told the court that the accused committed the offences with some others still at large on Jan. 30 at 11.30 p.m. at No. 11, Model St., off Command Road, Ipaja.
Okoi said the accused attempted to steal a Honda Accord car with registration no. LND 108 XH belonging to the complainant, Mr Oladehinde Taiwo.
“The complainant apprehended the accused as he was about to drive away the car after using a master key to open it.
“Ojo, who had several mater keys, was handed over to the police for questioning,” he said.
The offences contravened Sections 406 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused may be sentenced to seven years imprisonment if found guilty.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Layinka, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties
in like sum.
She said the sureties should be gainfully employed and should own landed property within the jurisdiction of the court.
In addition, the sureties should show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case until April 16. (NAN)
