Lagos, Oct. 23, 2017 (NAN) A 32-year-old student, Onazi Paul, who came to a hospital to donate blood to earn a living and allegedly stole a phone valued at N14,000, was on Monday in Lagos brought to court for trial.
The accused, on conviction, risks three years imprisonment.
Paul, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of attempt to commit felony and stealing at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, according to Police Prosecutor Eruada Victor, committed the offences on Sept. 15 at the General Hospital, Ifako-Ijaye, Agege, Lagos.
Victor said the accused, who was in the hospital as a commercial blood donor, stole Mr Olabayi Olakunle’s LG phone worth N14,000.
“Paul stole the phone from where it was being charged. Olakunle saw Paul running away with the phone and shouted to alert people in the hospital.
“The accused was apprehended with the help of people,’’ he told the court.
The offences contravened Sections 278 and 406 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Sections 278 stipulates three years imprisonment for offenders.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs G. O. Anifowoshe, granted the accused a bail of N14,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until Nov. 6 for mention. (NAN)
