Lagos, March 21, 2018 (NAN) A cleric, Pastor Danjuma Tafawa-Balewa, on Wednesday admonished Christians to always live by the biblical teaching of impacting the lives of others.
Tafawa -Balewa, a Senior Pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Apapa, gave the admonition at the Service of Songs for Pa Emmanuel Elegbede.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that late Elegbede, father-in law to Mr Dele Alake, former Lagos Commissioner for Information and Strategy, died on Feb. 23 at 89.
Tafawa-Balewa said it was not how long one lived on earth that mattered but how much impact one made on the lives of others.
The cleric explained that being one’s brother’s keeper is an attribute of Godliness.
“I want to advise you my brothers and sisters. Live a right life, a life not only dedicated to the service of God, but to the service of humanity.
“It is not how long one lives that matters but how much we are able to make impact of the lives of others.
“God loves the kind because our existence and living is as a result of his kindness and favour,” he said.
He urged Christians to rededicate their lives to God, as that is the ultimate purpose for which man was created.
Mrs Abosede Adebiyi, eldest child of the deceased, described her father as a doting dad who could do anything to please his children.
She said the children owed their disciplined upbringing to their father, as he was a stickler for rules.
“Our father was so loving that if anyone of us was sick, he would feel as if he was the one who was sick.
“He was a doting father who could do anything for his children. Daddy was a great father. We will all miss him,”she said.
Her husband, Mr Babatunde Adebiyi, also extolled the virtues of the deceased, saying he was the best father-in-law anyone could have.
He said he was inspired by the exemplary life that the deceased led.
The state Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Mr Kehinde Bamgbetan, also showered encomiuns on the deceased.
Bamgbetan, who is a political associate of Alake, said the testimonies of people about him showed he was a great person.
“He was such a great man. We will all miss him,” he said.
A former speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr Adeyemi Ikuforiji, said though he was not that close to the Elegbede’s, what people had said about him was inspiring.
“I am not that close to the family, but what people have said about him shows he led a great life.
“He was an inspiration and a model for the good and exemplary life that he led,” he said.
Ikuforiji said that the fact that his children were successful showed the kind of dedicated and caring father that he was. (NAN)
