Lagos, March 10, 2017 (NAN) A 26-year-old cleaner, Adams Abama and a computer technician, Emmanuel James, were on Friday docked at a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for alleged stealing of three HP laptops valued at N2 million.
Abama is facing a charge of theft while James is facing a two-count charge of receiving stolen laptops and unlawfully wiping-off vital information from them.
The duo, however, pleaded innocence of the offences.
The prosecutor, ASP Richard Odigie, told the court that Abama on Feb. 12 at 1.00p.m., at Evron Food Store, Chevron, Lekki, Lagos, stole three HP laptops.
He said that the laptops valued at N2 million belonged to the Evron Food Store, the employer of the accused.
Odigie said that James, 25, on Feb. 14 received the stolen laptops from Abama; , wiped off all the company’s information from the laptops by formatting them despite knowing that they were stolen.
“Abama, a cleaner at the company, stole the laptops when he was in the office for cleaning on a Sunday.
“Abama was identified from footage from the CCTV monitor installed in the premises when it was played by the company’s management as he was carrying out the act.
“The accused took the laptops to Warri, Delta, where he gave them to James, a computer technician, who formatted them and got them ready for sale.
“Abama was arrested on his arrival in Lagos from Warri,” the prosecutor said.
Odigie said that the offences contravened Sections 285, 326 and 348 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (as amended)
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 carries three years’ imprisonment, Section 326 stipulates 14 years while Section 348 prescribes two years imprisonment for offenders.
The magistrate, Mrs F.O. Ikobayo, granted the two accused N500,000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.
She adjourned the case to April 13. (NAN)
