Abuja, March, 16, 2017 (NAN) Dr Babatope Ajakaiye, the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), says  the civil service is the key driver of Nigeria’s development.

Ajakaiye said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja, describing the service as the most important aspect of governance in the country.

“In fact, the civil service is the most strategic and essential ingredient as far as Nigeria’s development is concerned.

“This is why government is doing everything necessary with a view to ensuring that we get it right as civil service remains the key driver of Nigeria’s development, ‘’he said

He, therefore, advised that in tune with the Change Agenda of the Federal Government, adequate training of the personnel was necessary to meeting current global challenges.

According to Ajakaiye, the FCT Administration, within the last three months of 2017, trained 1,500 staff on various cadres from all its Secretariats, Departments and Agencies (SDAs).

“Six hundred staff were trained on Basic Computer Appreciation skills using Microsoft Office Tools to enhance their productivity, while 900 were trained on fundamentals of Public Service that focus on Procurement Act, Financial Regulations and Public Service Rules,’’ he said.

Ajakaiye urged the officers to adhere strictly to their assignments, adding that civil servants who insisted on doing the right things would have nothing to fear.

He also appealed to workers to contribute their quotas in their various capacities for the progress of the country.

Ajakaiye  said that civil servants should always consider their duties as service to humanity and not opportunity to amass wealth.
