The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps,(NSCDC), Ekiti Command, said it handled no fewer than 3,250 criminal and civil cases in 2016.

The Public Relations Officer, (PRO) of the corps, Mr Tolu Afolabi on Wednesday told the News Agency of Nigeria,(NAN) in Ado Ekiti that that the feat was made possible by the cooperation received from members of the public.

He said while the corps was able to attend to many of the cases, those bordering on core crimes were referred to the police.

He said others that were purely civil, such as land and family disputes, were resolved amicably among the feuding parties.

Afolabi told NAN that since the functions of the corps is not limited to mere arresting and bringing criminals to book, but also to reform offenders willing to turn over a new leaf.

He said that an alternative conflict resolution unit had been established by the command to handle such category of cases to reduce pressure on courts.

He, however, said after such amicable resolution, any party that is still not satisfied was at liberty to seek further redress in regular court.

He urged members of the public to maintain the current tempo of providing useful information to the corps so as to be able to completely rid the state of crimes as well as nib criminal activities in the bud.

According to him, those offering such information had nothing to fear as they would be adequately protected while any information given would be treated with utmost confidentiality.

“We want to assure every law abiding Ekiti people of protection but the evil ones will definitely not find things easy because we will not allow them to rest.

“All cases relating to fraud, kidnapping and wanton destruction of public utilities shall be severely dealt with by the corps.

“This is why those involved crimes are advised to either vacate the state or stop such acts in their own interest,” he said.(NAN)
