Yola, May 2, 2017 (NAN) Security operatives comprising Policemen, personnel of the DSS and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Tuesday took over the Yola North Metropolitan Council secretariat following the suspension of the Chairman of the council, Alhaji Mahmud Abba.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Abba was suspended by Gov. Muhammadu Bindow in compliance with a resolution by the State House of Assembly to enable the house probe allegations of misconduct submitted to it in a petition by some councillors of the local government.

The security operatives stormed the secretarial in about 10 vans, blocked the entrance and prevented workers and visitors from going in.

The Police Commissioner in the state, Mr Oyekunle Adegboyega, later addressed the stranded workers at the secretariat, urging them to exercise patience.

Adegboyega said the measure was taken to contain any attempt by miscreants to sneak into the secretariat to cause trouble.

Among those stranded outside the secretariat was the council’s Acting Chairman, Mr Joshua Raphael, who endorsed the measure taken by the security operatives.

Raphael said that the measure was to prevent breakdown of law and order in view of growing protest by supporters of the suspended council chairman and those opposing him.

“As acting chairman I want to ensure that everything necessary is done to find a political solution to the problem,” Raphael said.

The suspended chairman had told newsmen that he had yet to get any suspension letter.

“I cannot comment on the situation because I have yet to be served with suspension letter,” he said. (NAN)
