Zaria (Kaduna State), Dec. 2, 2016 (NAN) The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Abayomi Gabriel-Olonishakin, has solicited the support of Nigerians to enable the armed forces tackle insecurity in the country.

He made the call on Friday in Zaria while speaking with newsmen shortly after commissioning some projects at the Nigeria Military School (NMS).

He said that the call had become imperative in view of the importance of information to national security.

“All we need to do is to step-up efforts and consolidate on our success in all the areas we are having our operations.

“Not only in the North-East but also in the Niger-Delta, as well as combating cattle rustling, kidnapping and other vices.

“We are stepping-up our games to ensure that peace returns to all these locations.

“We, therefore, enjoin Nigerians to offer us necessary support and vital information to help us effectively do our job,’’ he pleaded.

The CDS expressed appreciation to well-meaning Nigerians for their contributions in refurbishing the NMS to restore it to its lost glory.

He said the school was doing well in terms of academics, adding that it had already attained the level it was expected to attain.

“The school examination results are highly commendable, we only encourage them to sustain and improve on it,’’ he said.

Earlier at the commissioning, Gabriel-Olonishakin expressed satisfaction with the progress made by the school

“I am glad that this premier institution has not only continued to make its relevance felt in the Armed Forces, but also in the value addition to the development of Nigeria.

“I am also happy that the dreams and ideals of the founding fathers have continued to strive as the school move from strength to strength.

“Even after 52 years, the Nigerian society still appreciates the role NMS is playing in inculcating knowledge, discipline and patriotism to the boys as junior leaders,” he said.
The CDS said that the vision of the school was to produce disciplined, knowledgeable and patriotic young Nigerians ready to serve in the Armed Forces. (NAN)
