Ilorin, March 3, 2017 (NAN) Members of Cassava Growers Association Kwara chapter, have pledged to produce enough cassava to meet the demands of consumers in the state.
Prince Olusegun Owolabi, Chief Consultant to the association in the state, gave the assurance on Friday in Ilorin while addressing over 250 cassava growers during a maiden workshop on growing of cassava.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the workshop was aimed at sensitising cassava farmers on the benefits of growing of cassava.
Owolabi said the association intends to acquire 5,000 hectares of land for the cultivation of cassava to achieve its objective.
He appealed to the state government to expedite action on allocation of land to members of the association to boost cassava cultivation.
Addressing the cassava farmers, a Cooperative consultant, Mr Sunday Obaro, advised them not to divert loan for cassava farming to other ventures that would not assist the realisation of bumper cassava harvest.
He assured the farmers that government would provide security for their farms against encroachment by herdsmen. (NAN)
