Carpenter faces break-in, iron rods theft charge

Lagos , Feb. 8, 2017 (NAN) A 38-year-old carpenter, Oladeji Femi, who allegedly broke into a mechanic shop and stole iron rods worth N80,000, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on a two-count charge.

Femi, whose address was not provided, pleaded not guilty to burglary and stealing brought against him.

But the prosecutor, Cpl. Ishola Samuel, said the accused committed the offences on Jan. 31 at Amikanle area of Alagbado, a Lagos suburb.

According to him, the accused broke into the workshop of the complainant, Joseph Donatus, and stole the iron rods valued at N80,000.

“Femi was caught in the act by the vigilance group in the area which reported at the police station and was immediately apprehended.”

The offences contravened Sections, 307 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011, according to Samuel.

Following a plea of `not guilty’ by the accused, Magistrate A.R. Onologbo, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum.

“The sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.”

The magistrate adjourned the case to Feb. 13 for mention. (NAN)
