By Vivian Ibobo
Lagos, Sept. 27, 2017 (NAN) A 32-year-old carpenter, Olasunkanmi Gbenga, on Wednesday appeared in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court charged with defiling a 12-year-old girl on his workshop table.
Gbenga, who resides at Ishaga area of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of defilement and indecent assault.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, said the accused committed the offence on Sept. 5 at Isolo, Lagos.
Ogu said the accused grabbed the girl, who came to repair her school bag in his shop and defiled her.
“Gbenga lured the girl back to the workshop as she was leaving, put her on the table and defiled.
The accused covered the girl’s mouth with a bag while defiling her to prevent her from shouting,” he told the court.
According to Ogu, the accused gave the girl N100 after the defilement and asked her not to tell anyone.
“The girl, however, narrated everything that the accused did to her to her mother.”
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The offences contravened Sections135 and 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section prescribes life imprisonment for offenders.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties and
adjourned the case until Oct. 10 for mention. (NAN)
