Bail
Phnom Penh, Jan. 17, 2018 (dpa/NAN) Cambodia’s Supreme Court on Wednesday postponed a bail decision in the case of an Australian journalist and documentary filmmaker James Ricketson accused of espionage.

Ricketson is charged with espionage after flying a drone over an opposition party rally in June and if convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison.

The police accused him of gathering information that poses a threat to Cambodia’s national security and is evaluating data on the journalist’s computer and mobile phones, which were confiscated at the time of his arrest.

Ricketson’s translator, Vanna Nhok, who was present at Wednesday’s hearing, told dpa that the decision had been postponed “because some judges were not present”.

The journalist’s situation has moved many in his native Australia, where a petition calling for his release has generated some 50,000 signatures.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to issue its decision on Jan. 31. (dpa/NAN)
