Abuja, Sept. 26, 2017 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced a 25-year-old businessman, Salisu Danliti, to five months imprisonment for theft and mischief.

Danliti, who resides at Setraco area in Gwarimpa Abuja, had pleaded guilty to the two-count charge, but urged the court to tamper justice with mercy.

Sentencing him, the Judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, refused him an option of fine and advised him to desist from committing crime.

“It’s better to work and earn a living than stealing,’’ Sadiq said, adding that the conviction would serve as deterrent to would-be offenders.

The Prosecutor, Mr Zannah Dalhatu, had told the court that one Goodness Onwusobolu of 1st Avenue, Gwarimpa, reported the matter at the Gwarimpa Police Station on Sept. 23.

Dalhatu said that the convict on the same date snatched the complainant’s Infinix telephone handset and ran away.

He said that the man was later caught with the phone, which he had already damaged.

Dalhatu said the offence was punishable under Sections 287 and 327 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
