Abuja, June 1, 2017 (NAN) A 42-year-old businessman, Emeka Anumba was on Thursday arraigned in an Upper Area Court sitting in Gudu, Abuja for allegedly assaulting a customer.
Anumba, of Utako market, is facing trial on a four-count charge of criminal force, criminal intimidation, causing hurt and mischief.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Presiding Judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000.
The judge said that the defendant should produce a reasonable and reliable surety who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
He also ordered the prosecution to confirm the addresses of the surety and adjourned hearing until July 26.
The prosecutor, Mr Fidelis Ogbobe, earlier told the court that the complainant, Mr Daniel Okorie, of Utako market reported the matter at the Garki Police Station on May 23.
He said the complainant alleged that a customer came to his shop on May 20, to purchase a plastic bucket and the defendant, “for no reason, forcefully collected and damaged the plastic bucket”.
Ogbobe said that the defendant also held the customer’s shirt, tore it, lifted him up and slammed him down.
“In the process, the customer sustained injuries on his left hand and on his left leg.
“The defendant also threatened to deal with the customer by all means if he did not leave the market,” Ogbobe said.
He also told the court that the customer was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The prosecutor said that the offence was contrary to Sections 265, 397, 246 and 327 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
