Abuja, Feb. 2, 2018 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja on Friday sentenced a 43-year-old businessman, Aminu Musa, to six months’ imprisonment for breach of trust.
The Area Court Judge, Abubakar Sadiq, sentenced Musa, who was arraigned on a two-count charge.
Sadiq, however, gave Musa, a resident of Kado Village, Abuja, an option of N10,000 fine, and ordered him to pay N80,000 compensation to the complainant, Mr Armayaus Surajo.
Musa had pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.
The judge said that the punishment would have been stiffer if the convict had not saved the court the rigour of a protracted trial.
He charged the convict to be of good behaviour.
The prosecutor, Mrs Florence Auhioboh, had told the court that Musa defrauded Surajo in 2017.
He said that the complainant reported the case at the Life Camp Police Station, Abuja, on Jan. 29
Auhioboh said that Musa dubiously collected N80,000 from the complainant sometime in 2017 under the false pretences of providing a space for him at H-Medix, Gwarinpa.
She said that the convict failed to provide the space and converted the sum for his personal use.
Auhioboh noted that the offences contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
