Businessman bags 1 year imprisonment over N500, 000 fraud

Jos, July 31, 2017(NAN) A Jos Upper Area Court, on Monday sentenced, a businessman, Monday Bwai, to one year imprisonment for defrauding his colleague of N 500,000.

The Judge, Mr Yahaya Mohammed, sentence Bwai as he admitted committing the offence.

Mohammed, however, gave the convict an option to pay N 5, 000 fine.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Ibrahim Gowkat, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Nov.29, 2016.

He said the complainant, one Mr Hagar Henry, a businessman and a resident of Tinna junction Jos, reported the matter at the Laranto Police Station.

Gowkat said the accused collected N500, 000 from the complainant that he would purchase some organic fertilizer, a promised he never fulfilled.

“After he collected the money, he started avoiding the complainant and refused to pick-up his calls, until he was arrested,’’ he said.

Gowkat said the offence contravened Section 322 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
