Businessman, 35, docked over alleged assault

Lagos, March 14, 2018 (NAN) A 35-year-old businessman, Ibeto Nnamdi, who allegedly punched a man on the nose , was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Nnamdi, who resides at No. 28, Ikale St., Aguda-Ogba, Lagos, is facing a count charge of assault.
The prosecutor alleged that the accused committed the offence on March 11, at the Departure Hall of Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
Police Insp. Adebisi Sidikat said the accused punched the complainant, Maurice Uduakang, on the nose and injured him in the process.
“The accused assaulted Uduakang because he asked him to pay for the excess luggage He was carrying, which caused him to miss his flight.”
He said that the accused descended on him by inflicting serious injuries on the upper lid of his right eye.
The offence contravened Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 173 prescribes a three-year jail term for assault.
The accused, however, denied the charge.
In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs A.R. Onilogbo, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Onilogbo said one of the sureties should be a blood relation of the accused and both sureties should show evidence of three years tax payment to the Lagos State Government and have their addresses verified.
She adjourned further hearing in the case until April 5. (NAN)
