Abuja, June 20, 2017 (NAN) Mr Agom Tor, the Acting Chairman, Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), has called on youths in the country to shun corruption and support the Federal Government in its anti-corruption war.
Tor made the call on Tuesday in Abuja at the 2017 Children’s Forum of the bureau with the theme: “Nurturing the Values of Honesty and Accountability in the Nigerian Youth”.
He said the forum was an annual event of the bureau aimed at creating awareness among youths in the country on the negative effects of corruption.
According to him, the event is also to inculcate in the impressionable minds of youths, those high moral standards and acceptable ethical behaviour expected of them as future leaders.
“As we all know, when we get it right from the cradle, we secure a better future for our nation.
“Corruption, a hydra-headed problem is a global phenomenon that requires all hands to be on deck to fight it.
“The Nigerian youth should take their future in their hands by being the vanguard of the fight against corruption,” he said.
He urged youths to shun corruption, speak out against it and report every act of corruption or abuse of office to the Code of Conduct Bureau or other anti-corruption agencies.
“Ask your parents who are public officers, but stupendously rich, the source of their income.
“These little contributions could go a long way in the fight against corruption and youths could be seen as agents in the fight against corruption,” he said.
Mrs Christiana Oliko, Assistant Director, Child Development in the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, commended CCB for bringing children together for the forum.
She said that children constitute significant proportion of the Nigerian population and called on parents to ensure that the rights of children were protected.
Oliko urged the children to embrace hard work, transparency, accountability and honesty, and shun negative vices that could destroy their future. (NAN)
