Bangkok, May 9, 2017 (dpa/NAN) A Briton wanted by British police and Interpol for drug trafficking, has been arrested near Thailand’s southern resort city of Koh Samui, Thai police said on Tuesday.

“The police nabbed Jonathan Micheal Moorby, 45, on Monday at Koh Sam, an islet 30 minutes away from Koh Samui.

“He fled Britain to Thailand in 2014, said Apichart Boonsriroj,’’ Police chief of Surat Thani province said.

In 2014, Teesside Crown Court in north-east England issued an arrest warrant in absentia for Moorby for trafficking cocaine and amphetamines to Thailand.

According to the Teesside Gazette, Moorby has been jailed in Britain twice before for possession of illicit drugs.

“A joint task force comprising narcotics police, immigration police, local police and Interpol personnel arrested Moorby after receiving tip-off that he fled Koh Samui, where he lived since 2014,’’ Apichart said.

The police said that Moorby was found with a fake Belgian passport under the name Wouters Goosens.

He was charged with falsifying an official document and overstaying, and is currently detained at Samui prison awaiting trial in Thailand and deportation. (dpa/NAN)
