Bricklayer gets sentence for stealing N25,000 cell phone April 3

Lagos, March 29, 2017 (NAN) An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, on Wednesday fixed April 3 to sentence a 21-year-old bricklayer, Sanusi Mustapha, accused of stealing a cell phone.

The Magistrate, Mrs G.O. Anifowoshe, fixed the date after Mustapha pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing.

She ordered that the accused should be remanded in Kirikiri Prisons pending the review of the facts and sentence.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Eruada Victor, told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 18, at Ilori Close, Off Old Akute Road, Iju, Lagos.

Victor said the accused broke into the apartment of one Mr Olusola Ayodele and stole his phone valued at N25, 000.

“He entered the apartment, took the phone and was about to run away with it, when one of   the complainant’s co-tenant’s raised alarm.

“The accused was apprehended and taken to the police station,” he said.

The offence contravened Sections 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 prescribes a three-year jail term for offenders. (NAN)
