Lagos, Oct. 19, 2017 (NAN) A bricklayer, Godwin Uzor, 26, who allegedly absconded with two of his friends’ phones, appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday .
However, the defendant, who is facing a three-count charge bordering on phone theft denied the charges.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp Ben Ekundayo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Sept. 10.
The prosecutor said the defendant absconded with an Infinix Note 3 phone, valued N60,000 and an HTC phone valued N16,000, both belonging to his friends, Osamudemen Ehikioyo and Victor Bali.
Ekundayo said that the defendant visited his friend, Ehikioyo at his residence at Mable Estate, Lekki, Lagos and requested for the friend’s phone to call a friend outside his apartment and he disappeared with the phone.
He said that on the same date, the defendant also absconded with Bali’s phone with the same pretence of using it to call another friend.
“Uzor was later sighted at Ikota, Lagos and he was apprehended,” he said.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 attracts three-years imprisonment for offenders.
The magistrate, Mr Ade Adefulare, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adefulare adjourned the case until Nov. 13 for hearing. (NAN)
