Boy, 16, arraigned over alleged broad daylight tricycle battery theft

Lagos, Feb. 20, 2018 (NAN) A teenage boy (name withheld), who allegedly stole the battery of a tricycle parked outside a canteen in broad daylight, was on Tuesday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The 16-year-old accused, whose address was not given, is being tried for stealing.

The offence was committed on Feb. 13, at Tokotaya Bus Stop, Iju-Ishaga, a suburb of Lagos, Police Prosecutor Clifford Ogu told the
court.

Ogu said the complainant, Mr Shina Oyewusi, parked his tricycle beside the road and went to a canteen to eat at 12.45 .

“It was there that one of his friends came and told him that the accused was caught by some passersby removing the battery
valued at N15,000,” he said, adding the accused was immediately handed over to the police.

The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 which prescribes three years jail term for offenders.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety.

Chief Magistrate Taiwo Akanni, who gave the ruling, remanded the accused in Boys Correctional Centre ,Yaba, pending when the bail condition would be met.

She adjourned the case until March 5. (NAN)
