Maiduguri, March 29, 2017 (NAN) The Borno Government said on Wednesday that it would relocate two tertiary institutions displaced by Boko Haram insurgency back to base following the return of peace in the area.
The institutions include College of Administration, Konduga and College of Education, Bama.
Alhaji Ahmad Jaha, the Commissioner for Higher Education in the state, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri.
Jaha said the state government had also put in place machinery for the recruitment of new lecturers to replace those who left the service due to the insurgency.
“It is a known fact that the Boko Haram insurgency has negatively affected tertiary education in the state as two out of the seven institutions have relocated to Maiduguri for some years now.
“It is imperative to note that the institutions were not closed for a day, we only moved them to Maiduguri for safety at the peak of the insurgency.
“We have succeeded in rebuilding the College of Administration, Konduga, which was reduced to ashes by the insurgents.
“The school will relocate back to Konduga in the next two or three months.”
He,however, said that the College of Edcation, Bama, would take a longer period to move back to base.
“We have some challenges in the case of College of Education, Bama, which was razed by the insurgents.
“We have not been able to fix back the school because of paucity of fund,” Jaha said.
He said the state government had been making effort to approach Technical Education Fund and other organizations to raise money for the project.
“We are trying to organize a situation where the Technical Education Fund and other organizations will come too support us in rebuilding the school,” he said.
He said about 40 lectures left the service of the institutions due to the insurgency.
“Thirty-two were killed by the insurgents, they were killed during attacks and About 40 others decided to leave voluntarily. (NAN)
