Lagos, March 20, 2017 (NAN) Ogbehor Kelvin, a bodybuilder with the Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation of Nigeria (ABBFN) has said that inadequate and insufficient number of gymnasiums were hindering people from making a career from bodybuilding.
Kelvin told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos that such was hampering interested builders from getting quality training required to develop their career in that sub-sector of the sports industry.
“The main thing we need from the government is standard gymnasium with equipment and most importantly, it should be sited in places accessible to users.
“Some of us pay huge amounts in private gyms just to get good training under the supervision of instructors that are professional in the field.
“We pay as much as N8,000 weekly in private gyms; not all builders can afford such an amount on weekly basis, so, government should come to our rescue,’’ he said.
He added that the scheme would go a long way to engage youths and give them opportunity of billboard, magazines and television advertisements as well as sport benefits.
“This is one of the most lucrative schemes that can help Nigerian youths to be gainfully employed rather than becoming liabilities to their families and society at large.
“Even in the sports industry, we have competitions, but it takes regular training to be in form so as to be able to have the physique required to take part in competitions,’’ he added.
NAN reports that bodybuilding is a sport that combines both weight training and aerobic exercises which helps to control the body to develop muscles and influences health in a positive way. (NAN)
