Asaba, June 16, 2017 (NAN) The new Delta Traditional Medicine board, on Friday, said it would sanitise traditional medicine practice in the state.

The chairman of the board, Chief Ogbogodo Oguma, made this disclosure at the inaugural meeting of the board in Asaba.

He said the board was determined to reposition traditional medicine practice in the state, adding that it would not allow quacks to sabotage its efforts of providing quality health care to the people.

“As a board that is committed to carry out its mandate to the fullest, we will not allow quacks to sabotage traditional medicine practice in the state.

“We will put all machinery in place to identify and flush out these quacks parading themselves as traditional medicine practitioners,” he said.

The chairman urged  the board members to contribute their quota to the smooth implementation of the State Government’s health care programme.

He said that the place of alternative medicine could not be over-emphasised  if the quest for efficient, effective, affordable and quality health care for the people must be realised.

The chairman lauded Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa for giving the board members the opportunity to serve and promised that members would do their best to advance the course of traditional medicine in the state.

Oguma urged members of the board to be prepared to work harder in the new dispensation in order to actualise the mandate of the board.

Chief Philip Onyekpe, a member of the board, pledged commitment and support of members in actualising the health agenda of the Okowa administration.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the new board members included, its chairman, Chief Ogbogodo Oguma, and others; Dr Faith Odeys, Dr Thomas Onuefe, Chief Aliekumunor Ezekiel, Dr Jim Nwaka and Chief Philip Onyekpe. (NAN)
