Abuja, Dec. 16, 2016 (NAN) The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic‎, Bida, Dr Abubakar Dzukogi, has restated that the school management sustains cordial relationship and peace among students and workers of the institution.

In a statement issued from his office and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday, the rector said the clarification was necessary to correct some mischievous stories making round on some developments on the school’s campus.

He said the school authority and the students, nonetheless, expressed concern about the recent “inhuman molestation of a lecturer by some members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) of the institution.

“The attack on the lecturer was as a result of an argument between ASUP and the management of the institution over non-payment of negotiated allowances, resulting in the attack on a lecturer, who is also an aide to the rector.’’

He said although the management of the institution and students frowned at the incident, it had not affected the cordial relationship among the students and workers.

The rector said some allegations against the management that resulted in the argument were unfounded.

“They accused the management of changing a windscreen of a car with N1m but the receipt is there; that can’t be true. The windscreen and workmanship cost less than a hundred thousand.

“Some people are just trying to be mischievous. We have receipts for the purchase of the car and even the windscreen,’’ the statement quoted him as saying.

The statement said the President of National Association of Polytechnic Students, Mr Adeyeye Olugbenga, had immediately called for a roundtable between both parties to resolve some issues.

It quoted him as saying that the attack on the lecturer had nothing to do with the management.

“We strongly condemn the act and call for an urgent measure; the victim has the right to seek justice.

“We want both parties to sheathe their sword because we want this issue to be resolved before resumption so that it will not affect our academic session,’’ the statement quoted Olugbenga as saying.(NAN)
