Lagos April 4, 2017 (NAN) The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) on Tuesday said that players in the 2017 men’s basketball league would have insurance cover and would be indemnified by the competition’s new sponsors.
The NBBF Media Officer, Patrick Omorodion, who made the disclosure to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos said that the tournament would dunk off on April 13.
He said that the body had secured a new sponsorship deal worth 2 million dollars annually after the eight years era of Multichoice Nigeria Ltd, owners of DSTV, which ended in 2016.
“We are looking forward to the start of another season that promises to be exciting and very competitive.
“We have secured a deal worth 2 million dollars yearly to end in 2022 with a very reputable outfit that will be unveilled soon to the public.
“Right now, we are putting finishing touches to logistics such as repairing the floor at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos, and other centres across the country,’’ Omorodion said.
He added that the deal with the new sponsors would also include an insurance package to cover players regardless of the deals they have with their respective clubs.
“We are seriously considering players welfare because they are key to the success of the league.
“If they are well catered for, we believe that they will surely perform credibly to the delight of fans and the sponsors of the league.
“We are confident the coming season will be awesome and very entertaining because we have all the necessary modalities to ensure a successful season,’’ the NBBF media officer said.
