BASG, UNICEF train 60 CHEWS on life saving skills in Bauchi

Bauchi, July 21, 2017 (NAN) The Bauchi State Government and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) say they have trained 60 selected Community Health Workers (CHEWS) from 20 local government areas of the state on Midwifery skills.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the training, conducted under the EU/UNICEF Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) project.

It aims to equip the community workers with proper midwifery skills based on the shifting task policy in Bauchi State.

Addressing the participants, the UNICEF Bauchi Field Officer, Mr Abdulai Kaikai, urged them to brace up for effective service delivery.

He said the training was to prepare them towards the implementation of one Primary Health Care (PHC) per ward which was expected to operate 24 hours and seven days a week.

Similarly, the Executive Chairman, Primary Health Care Development Agency, Mr Adamu Gamawa, advised the participants to have attitudinal change.

He said that proper approach needed to be employed to retain patients for effective attendance on ante-natal and post-natal sessions.

“The training is to equip participants with proper overview of some of the life saving techniques in dealing with patients at the community level on MNCH issues,’’ he said.

NAN reports that the training lasted for 21 days with attention to both theoretical and practical ways of handling problems of pre, during and post partum cases.

It was also to ensure that the beneficiaries were equipment with the proper midwifery skills. (NAN)
