Baseball, Softball Championship: Sliders, Owena emerge winners

Lagos, Aug. 26, 2017 (NAN) Kwara Sliders Baseball and Softball Club of of Ilorin and Owena Baseball Club of Akura on Saturday emerged winners of the Ayangburen U-17 and U-13 Championships in Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 2nd edition of the championship, which began on Aug. 22, was organised by Baseline Foundation.

Sliders finished top of the U-17 event garnering nine points in the round robin event while Baseline club finished second with six points and Effortswill Club occupied the third position.

Influence Gwede, coach of Sliders told NAN that it was a well deserved victory for his team, having lost at the finals of the first edition to Delta State.

“Our preparation paid off this time and am happy my players were able to win the championship this time.

“We were deprived the trophy last year but no team was able to stop us this year, ” he said.

Bello Alage, who played a major role in Sliders victory, expressed his joy over the win, adding that the players’ commitment and determination paid off.

Also, Adekunle Ajayi, coach of Owena Baseball club told NAN that he was impressed with the performance of his players.

NAN reports that Owena defeated Ninetale Baseball and Softball of Lagos by 6 runs to 2 in a five inning game.

“I am so proud of my players and i know the future is bright as far as this game is concerned, ” he said.

Ledwarriors baseball and softball club of Lagos won the U-17 softball event of the championship.

NAN reports that 16 clubs participated in the event which was held in Effortswill Academy in Ejigbo area of Lagos. (NAN)
