Bar attendant risks seven years imprisonment

Ikorodu (Lagos State), Jan. 15, 2018 (NAN) A 28-year-old bar attendant, Emmanuel Barnabas, who allegedly stole the sum of N35,000 belonging to his boss, risks seven years imprisonment if found guilty of the offence.
Barnabas, who appeared at an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday, resides at Ebute Community in Ikorodu.
The Prosecutor, Bosede Adegeshin, said that the accused committed the offence at his place of work, Coded Hotel, between Jan. 3 and Jan. 7.
“His boss, Mr Thomas Agbozorah, said he sold some drinks to customers and failed to remit the money.
“The accused has been stealing money for a very long time but his boss got to know about this recently.
“All effort to get him to refund the money to his boss proved abortive, so he was reported to the police and was arrested,” Adegeshin said.
The prosecutor said the offence contravenes section 287(7) of the Lagos State Criminal Code Laws, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates seven years imprisonment for offenders.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mr O. O. Olatunji, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one responsible surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Feb. 4, for mention.(NAN)
