Ibadan, June 28, 2024 (NAN)A A Federal High Court in Ibadan on Friday ordered the remand of a middle aged man, Toheeb Adediran, at the Agodi Correctional Centre, after he confessed to trading in 4.418 kg of Cannabis.

Adediran confessed his guilt following his arraignment before Justice Ekerete Akpan, on a one-count charge of trading in illicit substances.

Akpan consequently adjourned the suit until July 2 for presentation of facts and judgment.

Earlier, counsel to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA) Oyo State Command, Ms Ann Balogun, had told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 3, in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

Balogun added that the NDLEA operatives acted on a tip-off from concerned Nigerians that Adediran was in possession of 4.418kg of illicit substance.

The prosecutor stated that the offence contravened the provisions of section 11 (C ) of the NDLEA Act Cap n30 Law of the Federation 2004.

In another development, the court also ordered the remand of Emmanuel Ayorinde in Agodi correctional centre for allegedly mixing 5.25 litres of liquid substances with coding.

Justice Akpan ordered Ayorinde to be remanded after he had pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of unlawful possession and mixing of harmful substances.

Akpan adjourned the suit until July 15 for hearing on bail application and commencement of trial.

The prosecutor had informed the court that the defendant committed the alleged offences on March 19, at New Garage area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

She alleged that NDLEA operatives apprehended Ayorinde after intelligence reports revealed that he was in the business of mixing illicit harmful drug substances like coding, with liquid, which he sells to people.

Balogun further told the court that the defendant was arrested with 17.4kg of Cannabis Sativa, which he concealed in a sack. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

Middle-aged  man docked for assault, breach of peace

Ibadan, June 27, 2024 (NAN) The Police in Oyo State on Thursday arraigned a middle-aged man, Ismaila Oladipupo, before a Mapo Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, over alleged assault and breach of peace.

The police prosecutor, Insp Oluseye Akinola, told the court that the defendant committed the  offence on June 19, at Challenge bus Terminal, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Akinola alleged that Oladipupo violently attacked one Kazeem Adewumi with a broken bottle, stabbing him several times on his forehead, arms and stomach following a minor disagreement.

The prosecutor told the court that the injured victim is on admission in the hospital for medical attention.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Latunji consequently admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.

Latunji adjourned the matter until July 16 for hearing.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)

Ibadan, June 24, 2024 (NAN) A Federal High Court in Ibadan on Monday ordered two terror suspects, Aliyu Mohammed and Ozain Mohammed, to be remanded in Agodi correctional facility, pending commencement of trial.
Justice Ekerete Akpan gave the order after Aliyu and Ozain had pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of unlawful possession of guns and abduction.
Akpan subsequently adjourned the suit till Oct. 8 for commencement of trial.
The Department of State Services (DSS) Prosecution, Mr T.A. Nurudeen, had earlier told the court that Aliyu and Ozain committed the crime between October 2022 and March 2023 at Saki West in Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State.
Nurudeen said that DSS operatives received a distress call from some concerned members of the community about the abduction and detention of one Usman Dandare, an indigene of Saki West, at a location in the vicinity.
He further said that the secret police swung into action and apprehended the duo.
According to the prosecution, the offences contravene the provisions of Sections 21(1) and 26(1) of Terrorism and Prohibition and Prevention Act 2024. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

Police arraign 3 men over alleged N10m fraud, impersonation

Ibadan, June 21, 2024 (NAN) The Police Command in Oyo on Friday arraigned three suspected fraudsters before a Mapo Chief Magistrate Court in Ibadan over alleged impersonation and N10 million fraud.

The suspects are Tajudeen Adeleke, 65, Elijah Adeoti, 54, and Akin Olawale, 69.

They pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge of conspiracy, false presentation and conduct likely to cause breach of peace when they were read to them.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Latunji admitted each of the suspects to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two reliable sureties who must show evidence of landed property in like sum.

Latunji adjourned the suit until July 18 for commencement of hearing.

The police prosecution, Insp Oluseye Akinola had told the court that Adeleke, Adeoti and Olawale committed the crime on June 19, at Mapo area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to Akinola, the first defendant impersonated high chief Lekan Alabi, the ‘Abese’ Olubadan of Ibadan in connivance with the second and the third defendants.

He added that they impersonated high chief Lekan Alabi, in order to fraudulently obtain the sum of N10 million from a UK based Nigerian businessman, Waheed Olokobi.

Akinola said the defendants assured Olokobi that they were members of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes and would secure him a piece of land at a Government Reservation Area in Ibadan using their connection. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

Police arraign 4 hoodlums for alleged breach of peace, unlawful assembly

Ibadan, June 11, 2024 (NAN) The police in Oyo State on Tuesday arraigned four suspected hoodlums  before a Mapo Chief Magistrate Court in Ibadan for alleged breach of public peace and unlawful assembly.

Those arraigned are Sodik  Adekola, 30; Bolaji Qudri, 20; Nurani Abdulkarim, 31 and Habib Taofeek 25.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Latunji admitted each of the suspects to bail in the sum of N100,000 each with one reliable surety each in like sum.

The suspects had pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conduct likely to breach public peace and attempted felony.

Latunji Adjourned the matter until June 20 for trial.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Oluseye Akinola told the court that the defendants committed the crime on June 3, at Ojaba market in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Akinola further said that Adekola, Qudri, Abdulkarim and Taofeek were apprehended after gathering unlawfully, smoking illicit substances and holding different dangerous objects.

Ibadan, June 10, 2024 (NAN) A 33-year-old terror suspect, Adamu Babangida, on Monday, confessed before a Federal High Court, Ibadan division, to aiding and abetting terrorism.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Babangida had, upon arraignment in March, pleaded not guilty to a seven-count charge of engaging in terrorism, unlawful transportation and possession of live ammunition.
NAN also reports that other charges preferred against the defendant included: aiding and abetting terrorism and obstructing security operatives from carrying out their lawful duties.
At the resumption of trial on Monday, the defendant had, through his counsel, Suraj Musa, said that he was guilty of the charges brought against him.
Musa said that the defendant was willing to enter into a plea bargain arrangement with the Ministry of Justice and Nigeria.
Though the Prosecution, Mrs Aderonke Imama, accepted the plea bargain offer, she, however, insisted that the defence counsel must make the details of the offer known through an application.
Imama said that it might amount to wasting the precious time of the court if the details were not well spelt out.
Consequently, Justice Ekerete Akpan adjourned the suit till Sept. 23 for the plea bargain and judgment.
NAN reports that the prosecution had earlier told the court that Babangida was arrested sometime in January 2023 when he was conveying a 20.76 MN special live ammunition and other sophisticated weapons, with the intention of equipping terrorists.
The prosecution stated that Babangida was resident at NNPC area, Jalingo, Taraba.
She added that the defendant was apprehended by military operatives in Akure, Ondo State, during a stop-and-check operation while transporting the sophisticated weapons with a Toyota bus, with registration number: ARS76XA.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 26(A), 4(B) 41(A), 43(1A) of the Terrorism, Prohibition and Prevention Act, 2022. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

Woman begs court to save her from ill-tempered hubby

Ibadan, June 6, 2024 (NAN) A food vendor, Shakirat Oguntade has prayed a Mapo Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan to grant her prayer for divorce from her estranged husband, Ganiu.

Oguntade in her petition told the court:”my life took a turn for the worse since I moved in with Ganiu because of his temper.

”He is  hot tempered and irresponsibility”.

She added that her estranged husband also kept monitoring her affairs.

”My lord, Ganiu, who is a herbalist has restricted me from having any friend in the neighbourhood for no reason.

”He has sent six other wives packing. I am the seventh wife he has married.

”I have no child with Ganiu because he is always cursing me.

”Worst still, he gives me only N200 as daily feeding allowance, so, I basically live eating rice and beans that I sell,”Oguntade told the court.

However, Ganiu was not in court to respond to the allegations leveled against him.

The bailiff tended evidence of several hearing notices he had served on the respondent before the court.

Delivering his judgment, the President of the court, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, held that the union between Oguntade and Ganiu was invalid and could not be described as a marriage that conformed with native laws and customs.

”Therefore, there is no marriage to be dissolved between the petitioner and the respondent due to absence of payment of bride price and proper handing over of the bride.

”Since Shakirat has indicated that she is no longer willing to continue with the cohabitation, she is free to go.

”Also, the respondent is restrained from harassing, threatening, disturbing and interfering with the private life of the petitioner”, Akintayo ruled. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
