    Ado-Ekiti, June 28, 2024 (NAN) The Chairman for Moba Local Government Area in Ekiti, Mr Bamidele Fadugba, on Friday said his administration would unveil new local security outfit to address insecurity within  the community.
    Fadugba made the declaration while interacting with members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), in Ado Ekiti.
    He said that the local security outfit would be called “Mase”, which means “Don’t do it”.
    He explained that the aim of establishing the outfit was to ensure the protection of lives and property of the people in the local government area.
    Fadugba further explained that the local security outfit would comprise of local hunters with special uniforms to distinguish them from other security outfits.
    The chairman promised that the new security outfit would collaborate with the conventional security agencies to get rid of criminals in Ekiti.
    Fadugba also promised to establish a sports hub, which would serve as an opportunity for youths to develop their talents.
    Reacting, the Chairman of NUJ Ekiti State Council, Mr Kayode Babatuyi, commended Fadugba for his contributions to the development of Moba local government.
    He assured the chairman that journalists would continue to assist him to promote his activities in the local government area.(NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

  • Invest in development of Ekiti, Ex-NOA boss urges wealthy indigenes

    Oye-Ekiti (Ekiti), June 27, 2024 (NAN) A former Director of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr Bamitale Oguntoyinbo, on Thursday, urged wealthy and kind-hearted Ekiti indigenes to invest in the development of the state.
    Oguntoyinbo stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Oye-Ekiti.
    He said that the selfishness of some leaders had brought serious setback to the development of the state, thus resulting in many youths becoming jobless.
    Oguntoyinbo, also a former Chairman of Oye Local Government, urged indigenes, who had served as governors, senators and members of House of Representatives, to establish agro-allied industries that would provide jobs for the youth.
    “I want to urge our past governors, senators and former House of Representatives members in Ekiti to invest in the development of the state.
    “We need agro-allied industries that will create jobs for our youths who are unemployed.
    “Many of our leaders, who had served in government positions and made money, prefer to invest in accumulation of property and luxury cars.
    “In the process, they have neglected the youth and the less-privileged who gave them the opportunity to hold those positions.
    “Therefore, I want to appeal to them to have a change of heart and help revive the economy of the state through investment,” he said.
    The former NOA director said the prominent and wealthy indigenes of the state should borrow a cue from a legal luminary, Chief Afe Babalola, who had established a university, hospital and other ventures, thus creating employment for people.
    He commended Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), for his enviable roles in the employment of youths and the overall development of Ekiti. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

    FUOYE governing council chairman condemns worsening insecurity in Ekiti

    Ado-Ekiti, June 22, 2024(NAN) Mr Kayode Ojo, Chairman, Governing Council of the Federal University of Technology, Oye-Ekiti(FUOYE), has condemned the rising insecurity and killings in Ekiti State.

    Ojo, who spoke through his Media Aide, Deji Aiyelabowo, on Saturday in Ado-Ekiti described the recent killings in the state as senseless, cruel and barbaric.

    He urged the security agencies to do everything possible to arrest the killers and face the wrath of the law.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that three persons were recently killed by gunmen at different locations in Ado-Ekiti metropolis.

    A commercial motorcycle ticket agent was shot dead close to the former Police Headquarters, Okesha, a POS operator was killed at Adebayo area and a rice hawker was killed close to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps office at the popular Oja-Oba by yet to be arrested persons operating on motorcycle.

    Ojo observed that the seeming helplessness of the police in crime control and prevention in the state was worrisome.

    “This despicable act must be condemned by all right thinking Nigerians, not only Ekiti residents.

    ”No doubt, the few criminals in our society are looking for opportunities to discourage or create fear in the minds of the people in the state so that evils can flourish. We must not allow this.

    “We must not allow evils to flourish in the society and security agencies must be alive to their responsibilities by exposing criminals from within.

    “Let the community fish out the criminals who carried out these dastardly act and hand them over to security agencies.

    “The killers are human beings, who are supposed to be traceable. They are not spirit, hence, all efforts should be made by all who are supposed to do the needful,” he said.

    Ojo, who is an All Progressives Congress chieftain in Ekiti State, called for holistic measures to put the barbaric act under check before degenerating to uncontrollable situation.

    “There is need for all security agencies to work together as a team to form a formidable body to put an end to the ugly development in the state.

    “The security agencies in the state should come together to work out a more professional modality to put an immediate halt to it.

    “The police and other relevant security agencies must work together to bring the culprits to book to serve as deterrent to others,” he said.

    While commiserating with the families of the victims, Ekiti people, the government, Ojo prayed God to console them over the loss.

    He urged residents to always be their brothers’ keepers, urging them to always be security conscious.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)

    Oye-Ekiti(Ekiti), June 19, 2024(NAN) A former Director of the National Orientation Agency(NOA) in Ekiti State, Mr Bamitale Oguntoyinbo, has advised local government chairmen to initiate and execute projects that would promote community development.

    Oguntoyinbo gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Oye-Ekiti, Oye Local Government area of the state.

    He noted that some LG chairmen in the state were not living to expectations of the residents in providing the dividends of democracy.

    Oguntoyinbo, also a former Chairman of Oye Local Government, described local government as the bedrock of democracy.

    He said it is also the closest government to the people where developmental projects must be carried out to complement the state government.

    He urged the chairmen to work harder in their various local governments to complement the good work of Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

    According to him, the governor has been working tirelessly to fulfil his electoral promises, and need the support of the chairmen for the people to enjoy dividends of democracy.

    “I enjoin the local government chairmen to initiate and execute developmental projects to promote development in their communities.

    “The chairmen must interact with the community people, share ideas with them on their needs and initiate projects that will meet their needs.

    “They should also initiate good projects and ideas that can attract the approval of the governor to release funds,” he said. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)

    Ado-Ekiti, June 7, 2024 (NAN) Dare Durosimi, the National Vice President of Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers’ Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU) South-West, has called on members to embrace creativity and good communication skill in resolving dispute.

    Durosimi gave the advice on Thursday, in a lecture delivered at a one-day training programme held in Ado-Ekiti, with the title: “Worker’s Interest and Organisation survival.”

    He said the call for members to be creative and adopt a new approach of engaging in dialogue with the management instead of always being at logger head with them became necessary as the world keeps advancing on daily basis.

    Durosimi advised them to be hardworking and give priority to the development of their organisation in a bid to have confidence to fight for the interest of their members whenever the need arises.

    According to him, such approach will ensure industrial harmony and make the work place conducive for members of the labour unions.

    “I want to advise all our union leaders, especially across the South-West states to embrace creativity and good communication skills to promote the development of their organisation and the union as well.

    “Being the chairman, secretary or any officer, irrespective of the office you may be holding, should not be your priority, but the interest of members.

    “Let us always add value to our organisations and the union, as that is the only way that our dear union can get to an enviable height, among other unions,” he said.

    The Chairperson of RATTAWU in Ekiti, Tola Popoola, said the training was organised for members to further widen their education and enlightenment.

    Popoola said the union was passionate about the development of its members with a view to add value to their organisations.

    Similarly, the State Secretary of RATTAWU, Kehinde Ogidi; Chairman of Progress FM Chapter, Soji Afinjuomo; and Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State (BSES), Bolaji Kolawole, said the training would boost their leadership skill. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)

    Ido-Ekiti (Ekiti), June 6, 2024 (NAN) The residents of Ido-Ekiti on Thursday have appealed to the Federal Government to implement price control policy to reduce cost of food, drugs and essential commodities.

    A cross section of residents of the community, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ido-Ekiti, said the cost of living in Nigeria had become unbearable.

    One of the residents, Mr Bolaji Farouk, a tailor, said the hike in prices of raw materials was too expensive for an average Nigerian.

    Farouk urged the federal government to engage relevant stakeholders, to regulate prices of food items and essential products.

    According to him, many of the clothing materials, sowing machines are too expensive to afford by most of our members in Tailors Association.

    “The high cost of food, drugs, essential commodities, raw materials needs to be address by the federal government.

    “I pray that God will grant President Bola Tinubu wisdom to pilot the affairs of our dear country,” he said.

    Also, Mrs Foluke Ajayi, a civil servant and resident of the community, appealed to President Tinubu to implement price control to ease the sufferings of Nigerians.

    Ajayi explained that whenever the federal government increased the minimum wage, prices of food and essential goods would also increase.

    He, therefore, appealed to Tinubu to focus on making cost of living comfortable for the citizens.

    Similarly, a leader of the community, Chief Jacob Aina, said the price of food, which an average Nigerian needed to survive, was too expensive to buy in the market.

    Aina explained that most of the people living within the community, were finding it difficult to eat three square meals a day, due to hike in prices of food.

    He appealed to the federal government to initiate price control policy to curb inflation of goods, food and essential commodities in Nigeria.

    Also, a resident, Mr Godwin Lawal, an automobile mechanic, said the cost of motor parts was exorbitant as most commercial and private users found them difficult to buy.

    Lawal said that due to lack of price control policy, many dealers of motor parts, raw food, have increased the prices.

    “I can decide to start selling motor parts and I will sell at any rate that suit me and nobody will query me.

    “That is what most Nigerians are doing, some motor parts are not as expensive as they are, but because the current price of petrol has affected cost of transportation, the dealers are increasing the prices of their goods.

    “But as soon as the federal government introduced price control policy, import duty, taxes will be reviewed and price of food, goods and essential commodities will be affordable for Nigerians,” he said.

    Lawal prayed God grant President Bola Tinubu wisdom on how to make cost of essential needs affordable for the citizens.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
