  • 2 arraigned for allegedly fighting in public

    Ibadan, June 28, 2024 (NAN) Two youths: Rebecca Isioma and Solomon Taiwo, on Friday, appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan for allegedly fighting in public.

    The duo, whose addresses were not provided, are being tried for alleged breach of peace and affray, to which they pleaded not guilty.

    The prosecutor, Mr Philip Amusan, told the court that the defendants allegedly committed the offence on June 14, at about 9.00 p.m. at Oke-Bola area, Ibadan.

    Amusan alleged that the defendants engaged each other in a fisticuff and disturbed public peace.

    He said the offence contravened Section 83 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

    The Magistrate, Mrs Sukurat Yusuf, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

  • 5 teenagers arraigned for alleged attempted felony

    Ibadan, June 28, 2024 (NAN) Five teenagers, namely, Daramola Samuel, Wasiu Usman, Selim Adebayo, Michael Yekini and Akeem Fawasi, on Friday appeared before a Grade ‘A’ Customary Court, Ibadan, for an alleged attempt to commit felony.

    The five with no fixed addresses were charged with conspiracy and attempt to commit felony, to which they pleaded not guilty.

    The prosecutor, Mr Philip Amusan, told the court that the defendants allegedly committed the offence on Thursday, at about 11.00 a.m., at Oke-Ado area, Ibadan.

    Amusan alleged that the defendants attempted to commit felony by gathering at a particular abandoned building within the community to carry out atrocities’ activities.

    He said the offence contravened Sections 516 and 509 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

    The court president, Mrs Sukurat Yusuf, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

    Yusuf held that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendants.

    5 shop attendants docked for allegedly stealing detergent

    Ibadan, June 28, 2024 (NAN) Five shop attendants were on Friday docked in an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, for allegedly stealing 21 rolls of Magik detergent.

    The police charged Abosede Akinkunmi, 45; Blessing Onaifa, 42; Deborah Adebayo, 39; Philomina Ita, 35 and Kolade Shayo, 30 with conspiracy and thegt.

    They pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The prosecutor, Insp Iyabo Oladoyin, told the court that the defendants allegedly committed the offence on Wednesday, at about 1.30 p.m, at Nourdm Global company, Oluyole, Ibadan.

    Oladoyin said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

    The Magistrate, Mrs Adebola Adeola, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N10, 000 each with one surety each in like sum.

    Ibadan, June 28, 2024 (NAN) An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, on Friday remanded Haruna Umaru, 22, Umar Abubakar, 30, Sulaiman Haruna, 31 and three others in a correctional facility in Ibadan, over an alleged armed robbery.

    The six whose addresses were not fixed, were charged with conspiracy and armed robbery.

    The Magistrate, Mrs Olasinmibo Sanusi-Zubair did not take the plea of the defendants for want of jurisdiction.

    She directed the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

    Sanusi-Zubair   adjourned the case until July 29, for mention.

    The prosecutor, Insp Oladejo Balogun told the court that the defendants allegedly committed the offence on May 17, at about 3.59 a.m, at Asani village, Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

    He alleged that the defendants while armed with guns, cutlasses and sticks robbed Eluyinka Sodiq of his car worth N6.9 million, phones and cash of N62, 000.

    Balogun  said the offences contravened Sections 6 (b) of the Robbery and Firearms Laws of Nigeria, 2004. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)

  • 3 housemaids docked over alleged theft of employers’ money, property

    Ibadan, June 28, 2024 (NAN) Three housemaids, Munirat Idris, Abibat Aliyu and Salamatu Aliyu, were on Friday, arraigned before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for allegedly stealing money and property belonging to their employers.

    Idris, 35, Aliyu 17, and Aliyu, 19, whose addresses were not provided, are being charged with conspiracy and stealing.

    The Prosecutor, Insp Oladejo Balogun told the court that the defendants committed the offence at about 5.30p.m on May 16, at Adenike Olufadewa Street, Alegongo, Ibadan.

    Balogun said that the defendants who worked as housemaids, stole money and property belonging to their employer, Mrs Comfort Gbadeyanka, after receiving their salaries.

    He said that the defendants stole N560,000 cash, food stuff worth N60,000 and kitchen utensils valued N45,000, belonging to Gbadeyanka.

    The prosecutor further said that after leaving Gbadeyanka’s house, the defendants were employed as housemaids in another house, belonging to Mr Harrison Akinsulie.

    He said that while working at the house located at Odo-Ona Elewe, Ibadan, the defendants again stole N712,000, a set of wrapper, food stuff and other valuables.

    He said that the offences contravened Sections 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

    The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.

    The Magistrate, Mrs Olasinmibo Sanusi-Zubair granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with two reliable sureties each in like sum.

  • We’ll never relent in protecting lives in Oyo, new CP assures

    Ibadan, June 27, 2024 (NAN) The new Commissioner of Police (CP) in Oyo State, Sonubi Ayodele, has assured that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to uphold its statutory responsibilities of protecting lives and property.

    Ayodele who said this on Thursday in Ibadan during his inaugural media briefing said this would be without prejudice to background, religion or association.

    The CP also assured that the Police Command in Oyo State under his watch, would not tolerate the existence of any criminal enterprise.

    “I will not hesitate to identify, isolate and bring to deserved justice any person or group that may attempt to threaten the existing relative tranquility in the state,” he said.

    Ayodele disclosed that, as part of the modalities put in place to further secure the state, the Police Command in Oyo State has further rejigged its security architecture.

    “This is to accommodate more actionable tools to clamp down on criminal elements through the adoption of a five-step action plan with our sister security services, tagged ‘RACAI’, which is Robust Inter-Agency Collaborations.

    “We have amplified community policing engagements, capacity-building for police officers through training and retraining.

    “Also, there is advanced intelligence and technology-driven policing, just as we are increasing layers of supervision for our officers and men, and increased visibility policing, among others,” he said.

    The CP assured of better collaboration with groups such as the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC).

    “To our immediate family, the PCRC, I acknowledge your immeasurable contributions.

    “We also reassure you that we shall further consolidate on the existing relationship while soliciting your continued collaboration and support,” he said.

    Ayodele also assured newsmen in the state of a cordial police-media relationship, and acknowledged them as worthy partners in the business of perception and image management.

    “On behalf of the Police Command, I look forward to formidable partnerships and strong collaborations with residents and all citizens in Oyo State.

  • Man, 50, in court over alleged N295,000 land fraud

    Ibadan, June 27, 2024 (NAN) A 50-year-old man, Babatunde Matairu, on Thursday, appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, over an alleged N295,000 land fraud.
    Matairu, whose address was not provided, was charged with obtaining money under false pretence, stealing and conduct likely to cause breach of peace, to which he, however, pleaded not guilty.
    The Prosecutor, ASP Anthony Igori, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in February at about noon at Oluwo area of Ibadan.
    Igori said that the defendant fraudulently obtained the money from one Mr Samuel Kolade under the pretence of selling one acre and two plots of land to him at the aforementioned area.
    He said that the offences was contrary to Sections 419, 390 and 249(d) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
    The Magistrate, Mr Olaolu Olanipekun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000, with two reliable sureties in like sum.

  • 6 in court for allegedly threatening woman’s life

    Ibadan, June 27, 2024 (NAN) The Police, on Thursday, arraigned six men before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, over alleged threat to a woman’s life.
    The defendants are: Olujinmi Oguntoyinbo, 48; Olawumi Oladipo, 46; Musa Atiba, 33; Mariam Abdulahi, 32; Agboola Ayodeji, 29 and Timileyin Fawise, 31.
    The defendants, whose house addresses were not provided, are being tried for alleged conspiracy, threat to life and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.
    The Prosecutor, ASP Amos Adewale, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on March 6 at about 8 p.m. at Adeoyo area of Ibadan.
    Adewale said that the defendants threatened the life of one Chief Funmilayo Obisesan, while armed with cutlasses, stones and other dangerous weapons, including red oil container.
    He said that the offences contravened Sections 516, 418 and 249 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
    The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
    The Magistrate, Mr Maruff Mudashiru, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each, with one surety each in like sum.

  • Man docked over alleged N5m mushroom fraud

    Ibadan, June 27, 2024 (NAN) A 37-year-old man, Soyombo Olanrewaju, was on Thursday arraigned before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, over an alleged N5 million mushroom fraud.
    Olanrewaju, whose address was not provided, was charged with obtaining money under false pretence and stealing.
    He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
    The Prosecutor, ASP Foluke Adedosu, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometimes in 2021 and 2022 in Ibadan.
    Adedosu said that the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N5 million from one Mrs Elizabeth Folorunsho and two others, with the pretext of selling mushrooms to them.
    She said that the defendant converted the money to his personal use without supplying the mushrooms.
    According to her, the offences contravene Sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
    The Magistrate, Mrs M. Olagbenro, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with one reliable surety in like sum.

  • Man, 32, arraigned for allegedly receiving stolen phone valued N150,000

    Ibadan, June 27, 2024 (NAN) A 32-year old man, Waliu Animasahun, was on Thursday, arraigned before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for allegedly receiving a stolen phone valued N150,000.

    Animasahun, whose address was not provided, is being charged with receiving a stolen phone to which he pleaded not guilty.

    The Prosecutor, Insp Olalekan Adegbite told the court that the defendant committed the offence at about 7.30p.m on May 2, at Ojoo, Ibadan.

    Adegbite said that the defendant received a Infinix phone worth N150,000 from a man named, Mutiu Salami, knowing that it was stolen from the rightful owner, Benjamin Inmo

    He said that the offence contravened Section 430 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

    The Magistrate, Mrs Oluwabusayo Osho granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
