    There’s no better alternative to democracy, says Bala  Mohammed

    Bauchi, June 12,  2024 (NAN) Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has declared that there is no better alternative to democracy as a form of government.

    Mohammed made the declaration in his goodwill message on the occasion of the 2024 Democracy Day celebration.

    “As Nigeria celebrates  its 25th Democracy day, it   is a testimony to the fact that democratic governance has not only been firmly rooted but has also come to stay in the country ,” he said.

    Mohammed reiterated the commitment of his administration to accountability and transparency in governance, pledging that the resources at the government’s disposal would continue to be judiciously used for the common good of the people of the State.

    “We will continue to ensure value for money for the projects that would be executed. To this end, the resources we have would be deployed for maximal effect on the socio-economic development of the State.

    “We cannot afford to embark on projects that have little or no effect on the wellbeing of the generality of the people of the State,” he said.

    The governor noted that the current economic hardship being experienced as a result of the removal of fuel subsidy was a national problem that has been receiving the attention of both the federal and state governments.

    He said the Bauchi state government in collaboration with relevant federal government agencies have been taking appropriate measures by providing palliatives in form of food and non food items to bring succour to the people.

    The governor also promised to continue to work hard to bring the hardship to an end and appealed for the people’s continued understanding and cooperation as the government strives to salvage the situation.

    He said his administration would be boosting agriculture through provision of adequate inputs, encouragement of farm mechanization and deployment of extension workers to guide farmers for improved crop production and animal husbandry.

    “The solid minerals and tourism sectors would also be given the priority they deserve.

    “Government would also continue to provide an enabling environment to facilitate the ease of doing business for the establishment of new commercial enterprises and improve the existing ones. 

    “Small and medium enterprises would also be supported to thrive,” said the governor. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

    Bauchi, June 6, 2024 (NAN) Alhaji Adamu Duguri, the Chairman, Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has said that teaching was not a relegated profession due to its contributions to national development. 

    He stated this at the end of a three-day capacity building exercise of 30 teachers of core subjects on Thursday in Bauchi.

    The exercise was being implemented by the state government in collaboration with the Girls Education Mission International (GEM) project and TY Danjuma Foundation.

    Duguri tasked the teachers to be upright and dedicated towards imparting relevant knowledge in their students, to further move the profession to its rightful place.

    “It is your responsibility to make the state and country habitable because when you train people, you are training the whole country.

    “Thuggery, terrorism and other form of crimes are major organ of illiteracy because a learned person could not dagger or kill a fellow citizen no matter their differences.

    “So, I believe that if people are trained, then progress is imminent.

    “Don’t assume that teaching is a relegated profession, Try to bring the profession back to its initial position to earn the respect you deserve,” he said.

    He, however, lamented that the state government was investing huge resources in the education sector without corresponding commitment by teachers

    “There are teachers that even steal equipment in schools, and the spate of harassment against students by some teachers is also disheartening.

    “When teachers are immoral, there will be serious problem in the society,” he said.

    Also speaking,  Ketura Shammah, the Executive Director, Girls Education Mission International, described the exercise as worthwhile considering the responses of the teachers. 

    She said the participants were expected to step down the training to about 5,000 teachers in the state. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)

     Ahmad Jalam, the late Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Bauchi state

    Bauchi, June 2, 2024 (NAN) The Bauchi State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ahmad Jalam, has lost his life in an auto-crash that occurred on Saturday.

     

    Gov. Bala Mohammed disclosed this in a condolence message to the members of his immediate family and the entire people of the state issued in the early hours of Sunday.

     

    According to him, the commissioner lost his life in an accident that occurred on the busy Misau-Darazo highway.

    Mohammed described the deceased as a dedicated public servant, whose commitment to the development and well-being of his local communities was unwavering.

     

    The governor said, “During his lifetime, he championed numerous initiatives aimed at improving good governance and community relations.

     

    “Late Ahmed Jalam was known for his tireless work, integrity, and compassion for the people he served and his service will be remembered and cherished by all.

     

    “His demise is deeply felt by all and the countless individuals whose lives he touched during his lifetime.”

     

    Mohammed, on behalf of his family, government and the good people of the state, extended his deepest condolences to the members of the late commissioner’s family and the entire people of the state.

    He also prayed that the Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest.

     

    The governor said that the late commissioner, who left behind wives and many children, would be buried on Sunday in his hometown in Dambam Local Government Area according to Islamic rites.(NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
