    Okitipupa (Ondo State) June 28,, 2024 (NAN) A 54 year-old farmer, Tosin Lebile was on Friday docked in an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State, for allegedly breaking into awelding shop and stealing property worth N2.5million.

    The police charged Lebile, whose address was not given with felony, burglary and theft.

    The Police Prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the defendant and two others at large, on April 24 around 08.30 p.m at Temidayo Street in Okitipupa, Okitipupa magisterial district conspired to ccommitted felony.

    Orogbemi said that defendant and  his accomplices broke into a welding shop belonging to Ilesanmi Akinyemi and stole two welding machines, two grinding machines,  a generator alternator and  three engine plate covers .

    The police said the offence is punishable under Sections 516, 411 and 390 (9), Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

    The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mr Philip.Akinlosetu, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500, 000 and two sureties in like sums.

    He added that the sureties, who must be reside within the court’s jurisdiction, must also show and present evidence of two years tax payment to the state government.

    The chief magistrate adjourned the case until July 4, for further hearing. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)

    Okitipupa (Ondo State) June 27, 2024 (NAN) A 45-year-old tax force officer, Ayodeji Aiyeku, on Thursday appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo, over alleged N264,000 fraud.

     

    The defendant whose address was not given, is facing a two-count charge bordering on breach of peace and advance fee fraud.

     

    The Police Prosecutor, Insp Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the defendant on Dec. 10, 2023, around 10.00 a.m at Broad Street, Okitipupa in Okitipupa magisterial district conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.

     

    Orogbemi said that the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N264,000 from one Kehinde Abdulateef with pretence of supplying him with a palm kernel shell without doing so.

     

    He added that the offences contravened and punishable under Sections 249(d) and 419, Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

     

    The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

     

    The Chief Magistrate, Mr Philip Akinlosetu granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500, 000 and a surety in like sum.

     

    He added that the surety, who must reside within the court jurisdiction, must also show and present evidence of two years tax payment made to the state government.

  • Jimoh Ibrahim donates N1m to breast cancer patient in Ondo community

    Igbotako (Ondo State), June 25, 2024 (NAN) Sen. Jimoh Ibrahim, representing Ondo South Senatorial District at the National Assembly has donated N1 million to a cancer patient, Abiye Ayeyemitan, in Igbotako, Ondo State.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ayeyemitan, a widow and mother of two, had been diagnosed with stage two breast cancer.

    NAN also reports that that the Old Students’ Association of Community Grammar School, Igbotako, had earlier called for donation of N2 million from members and the general public for medical test and chemotherapy for the cancer patient.

    Ayeyemitan, an indigene of Igbotako in Okitipupa Local Government Area, expressed appreciation to Ibrahim for his magnanimity.

    She told newsmen on Tuesday in Igbotako that upon receiving the association’s message and being a member of the alumni of the school, the senator decided to donate the money to her.

    “He (Ibrahim) also urged me to be strong and not lose hope in this my difficult time, assuring me that God would perfect my healing.

    “I am so happy and full of praises to God and appreciation to our senator for his kind gesture,” she said.

    Ayeyemitan prayed God to continue to be with the senator, who is also an indigene of Igbotako, and his family. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)

  • Pay more attention to your passion, abilities than mere certificates, Expert urges students

    Okitipupa (Ondo State), June 21, 2024 (NAN) Nigerian students have been urged to pay more attention to their passions, innate abilities and potentials than their mere academic certificates to survive the current economic challenges.
    Director-General of Ondo State Pension Commission (OSPENCOM), Hon. Babatiunde Adefusi-Owate, stated this during a lecture, organised for graduating students of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa on Friday.
    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the lecture, held inside the multipurpose auditorium of the institution, had as its theme: “Think Beyond School.”
    Adefusi-Owate said that being a graduate was supposed to be a mere stepping stone, maintaining that continuous skill enhancement and lifelong learning were crucial in the contemporary job market.
    “There is a great value in becoming a specialist in one’s chosen domain.
    “I urge graduates to establish distinct positions for themselves, pursue professional career advancement and concentrate on personal development, financial management and maintain a work-life equilibrium,” he said.
    The director-general advised graduates to contemplate becoming entrepreneurs by registering their enterprises with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and operate within the legal boundaries.
    “Graduates should refine their communication skills, participate in capacity-building workshops, seminars, training sessions and obtain pertinent competency certifications.
    “They should also foster a growth-oriented mindset, embrace challenges and construct a robust professional network,” he said.
    Another speaker, Dr Adeyemi Adeyemo, of OAUSTECH’s Department of Biological Science, advised students to pursue careers that aligned with their interests and capabilities.
    He also implored them to adopt what he called the “shape” principle, involving recognising their unique talents, following their instincts, identifying their strengths, understanding themselves and acquiring valuable experiences.
    The state Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr Segun Ayerin, congratulated the students and urged them to consider themselves fortunate to partake in such a transformative and defining programme.
    Ayerin, represented by Mr Adegoju Owolabi, a Director in the ministry, urged the graduating students to explore and cultivate their unique gifts and talents as well as maintain a focus.
    “Strive to be innovative problem solvers, conduct thorough research, think creatively, act decisively and be encouraged to make positive impacts on the world by offering your utmost,” Ayerim said.
    Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of OAUSTECH and Chief Host, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, expressed gratitude to the students for their full participation in the programme.
    Ologunorisa said that the purpose of the lecture was to equip them for life post-graduation, enabling them to have a clear sense of direction.
    He appreciated the Olusegun Agagu University Leadership Academy (OAULA) Career Centre for coordinating the lecture.
    The vice-chancellor also informed the graduating students that the centre would provide instruction and exposure to essential 21st century skills.
    The acting Director of OAULA career centre, Dr Cecilia Oluwamodupe, also graciously acknowledged the vice-chancellor for his unwavering support for the academy.

    Okitipupa (Ondo) June 21, 2024 (NAN) The police on Friday arraigned one mechanic and two farmers in an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State for allegedly stealing a phone worth N42,000 and N120,000 cash.

    The three accused persons are Sunday Igbajowo, 20 (mechanic), Olamilekan Temitope, 33 and Ayodeji Akinsote, 25, both farmers, charged with felony, burglary and theft.

    The Police Prosecutor, ASP. Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the three men on March 11, 2024 around 11 p.m at Igbosika Street, Ode-Aye in Okitipupa magisterial district, conspired to commit felony.

    Orogbemi said the men burgled the house of one Samson Setimi and stole one Intel P33 android phone valued N42,000 and N120,000 cash.

    He added that the suspects committed offences contrary to and punishable under sections 411, 516 and 390 (9), Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

    However, the men pleaded not guilty and the Chief Magistrate, Mr Philip Akinlosetu, granted them bail in the sum of N200,000 each and one surety each in like sum.

    The magistrate added that the sureties must be residing within the court’s jurisdiction, and must show and present evidence of two years tax payment to the state government, as he adjourned the case till

    Okitipupa (Ondo State) June 12, 2024 (NAN) The National Universities Commission (NUC) has given full accreditation status to 14 programmes at the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Ondo State.

    Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, the Vice-Chancellor of OAUSTECH, told journalists on Wednesday in Okitipupa.

    Ologunorisa said that the accreditation was contained in a letter dated June 6, and signed by Engr Abraham Chundusu, the acting Director of Accreditation on behalf of the Executive Secretary of NUC.

    He said that NUC conducted accreditation of academic programmes at the institution between October and November 2023.

    According to him, the result of exercise indicates full accreditation for all the 14 programmes on offer in the university.

    “Although, the institution’s programmes had got interim accreditation in the previous exercise conducted before my administration which begin on March, 23, 2022,” Ologunorisa said.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the programmes with full accreditation include; Agriculture, Fisheries, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, and Food Science Technology.

    Others are; Mechanical Engineering. Botany, Geophysics, Industrial Chemistry, Mathematics, Microbiology, Statistics and Zoology.

    Prof. Akinbo Adesomoju, the Chairman of Governing Council of the institution, however commended the management for the achievement. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)

    Okitipupa (Ondo State) June 7, 2024 (NAN) A 32-year-old scavenger, Ridwan Olasupo on Friday, appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ondo, for allegedly stealing items worth N700,000.

    The defendant whose address was not given, is facing a three-count charge of felony, burglary and stealing.

    The Police Prosecutor, Insp Ayodeji Omoyeigha told the court that the defendant and another now at large, committed the offence at about 7.00p.m on Jan. 29, at Ikoya Road, Okitipupa.

    Omoyeigha said that the defendant, burgled a welding shop belonging to the complainant, Samuel Sunday and stole items worth N700,000.

    He said that Olasupo stole a welding machine valued N350,000, a cracker machine valued N200,000, and a 6kg gas cylinder valued N48,000.

    He said that the defendant also stole a wheel barrow valued N150,000 and a tank valued N52,000.

    The Prosecutor said that the offences  contravened Sections 411, 412 and 390 (9), Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

    The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mr Philip Akinlosetu granted Olasupo bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    He said that the sureties must reside within the court jurisdiction, and should present evidence of two years tax payment to the state government.

    Ore (Ondo State), June 5, 2024 (NAN) The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised motorists to ensure that their vehicles are in good condition before putting on the roads during this rainy season.

    Mrs Yetunde Adesina, the FRSC Unit Commander in Ore, Ondo State gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Ore.

    Adesina said that motorists must ensure clear windscreen, functional wipers, brake system, headlamps, rear lights, traffic indicators, side glasses, while driving during the rains.

    She also urged motorists to desist from using expired tyres and maintain normal speed limit to avert crashes.

    According to her, the rain is fast approaching and we need to intimate motorists on safety measures to avert crashes on the highway.

    “Motorists must ensure that their windscreen and vipers are in good order for them to see clearly while driving during the rains.

    “Use of expired tyres too are very dangerous during the rains because of the slippery roads and motorists must also desist from speeding during the rains to avert crashes,” she said.

    Adesina urged motorists plying Ore-Benin; Ore-Ondo and Ore-Okitipupa expressway to obey traffic rules and regulations as FRSC personnel would always enforce the law and arrest offenders. (NAN) (www.nanews.ng)
