Abuja, Oct. 5, 2017 (NAN) An author, Mrs Ojonugwa Abu, has called for commitment in the promotion of family values and national unity among the citizens to enhance peaceful coexistence in the country.

Abu made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja.

The author, who recently launched her book “Ravaged” said that the family unit in the society was responsible for the type of citizens in a country.

“In my primary school, we were told that “childhood shows the man as morning shows the day.

“We need to instill positive values in our children to give  them better tomorrow.

“When children grow up with a mentality that there is no difference between Christians and Muslims, Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba, then we are in the right path to absolute national unity and development.

“This by extension will culminate in a situation where we all see ourselves as Nigerians with one destiny.

“However, in spite of our differences, we need to come together. We are stronger in unity and our diversity makes us just unique and beautiful.

“A three folded cord cannot be easily broken. Irrespective of our difference, foundation and all that, we become a formidable force when we come together,” Abu said.

She said that the need to assist the less privileged in the society, especially the victims of insurgency in the country.

Abu said that they never bargained to become victims and  urged that they should be seen as brothers and sisters.

On the book “Ravaged”, the author and photographer said that writing the book was not easy as it had to do with the real life experiences of internally displace persons in Borno.

“What I hope to achieve with the book is to pass a message of hope and perseverance of the fact that irrespective of circumstances, problems and challenges, they are surmountable.

“We should instill positive family values in our children to make them better adults that will contribute positively to the development of humanity and the country,’’ Abu said.  (NAN)
