Abuja, Feb. 6, 2017, (NAN) Acting President Yemi Osinbajo said on Monday that President Muhammadu Buhari was hale and hearty following his conversation with the President in the afternoon.

Prof. Osinbajo told journalists in the state House that President Buhari inquired about the progress of the 2017 budget.

He also said that Buhari was briefed about the meeting with the private sector and the spate of protests in the country.

.        Cue in audio: Osinbajo

“Let me just say the President is hale and hearty. I spoke to him just this afternoon and we had a fairly long conversation.

“He was interested in knowing about the budget process and how far we had gone.

“As you know we had a meeting today with the private sector on the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (EGRP).

“And he was also interested in knowing what was happening with that on the ERGP and what we were doing with the private sector.

“And, of cause, I informed him of what we were seeing about the protest matches and all of that and some of the feedback and what people are saying about the economy and all of that.

“So, he is in good shape. He was very chatty and we had a conversation this afternoon.’’
.        Cue out audio.

On the issue of the President expected time of return, Osinbajo explained that Buhari needed to go through a cycle of tests and once the test results were seen, he would receive medical advice,

He said that all this explanation was contained in the President’s letter to the National Assembly, adding that ”we expect him very soon’’.

Osinbajo also spoke on why the government had not told Nigerians about the President’s health status.

“Well I think that the health status of Mr President is a fact on issue that only Mr President himself will be able to discuss at the appropriate time.

“Again he is running tests and all of that.

“Before you determine your health status you must be able to say `this is my health status’.

“If I am running tests, doing some routine and doing what my doctors have asked me to do, surely I must await for the outcome of that before I talk about any kind of status.’’

Asked if he was under any pressure to resign, Osinbajo said “I am absolutely under no pressure to resign.

“In any event, I was voted for by the people of this nation, myself and Mr President, and the people of this nation have not asked us to resign.

“The truth is that there has been absolutely no pressure whatsoever from any source asking me to resign and that is the honest answer,’’ he said. (NAN)
