Abuja, Feb. 12, 2018 (NAN) The FCT Women Football Development Committee, on Monday says it has concluded plans to develop women football at the grassroots in the FCT.

Victoria Nlemigbo, the chairperson of the committee, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

She said that the voice of women football in Nigeria generally was not being heard compared to that of their male counterparts.

“The theme of this year is; Women Football Grassroots Development. This is because we are looking at tailoring our FCT women league this year to the grassroots.

“The league will be drawn from secondary schools because we want to start first of all with what we call `school Advocacy programme’, where we will run symposiums, seminars, clinics and run mini-tournaments within schools.

“And then inter-schools and intra-schools to be able to identify talents.

“Once we do that in conjunction with our team of technically grounded coaches, we will pick the best among the secondary school students and group them under coaches to form the team for the next FCT women league.”

According to her, the focus of the board in 2018 is to ensure that women football develops at the grassroots where so many talents abound.

She further explained that the committee would also be working with schools to extend scholarship to students identified under the programme.

“We are really going all out to reach out to well meaning Nigerians to give us whatever support they can because at the end of the day, sports must not die and women football must not die.’’ (NAN)
