Lagos, Jan. 17, 2017 (NAN) A tourism expert, Mr Adetunji Fadina, has urged the Lagos State Government to make boat regatta a carnival product and tourism destination.

Fadina told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Tuesday that if the sites for the boat regatta were developed, Asian tourists would visit in their multitude.

“Lagos is a business environment; so Lagos is now adding leisure to it; they are adding carnival to it.

“If we begin to sell ourselves to some of those nations – Asia, Chinese have the capacity of moving their traffic into this place.

“Personally, I would say that they should take carnival off; they should focus on the boat regatta, which is what we are used to in the 60’s.

“Some of the things we need to be very careful about right now is the development of products; when the products are developed, things will work.

“Look at Akwaba (African Tourism and Market) for example; he is now bringing traffic into this destination, that’s what we need to do.’’

The expert said that if the stakeholders in tourism sector would collaborate with the government to develop the right products, Nigeria’s endowments would be sold to the world.

Fadina commended the Lagos government for initiating viable programmes aimed at boosting up the industry. (NAN)
