Talent

Lagos, Dec. 1, 2016 (NAN) Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) on Thursday in Lagos advised up-and-coming thespians to acquire certified skills to boost their chances of becoming professionals.
The Vice-Chairman of the guild, Mr Tope Babayemi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that in the arts, it is not enough for budding thespians to have talent alone.

“Just having talent is amateur; it is when you add certified skills like certificate either through a recognised institution or through experience working under certified people that you can dare to call yourself professional.
“Up until then you are amateur if talents is all you have to show and that is what we are trying to do generally within the arts in Nigeria.
“So, my advice is you got talent; you are interested in the arts, go and acquire the requisite
skills that will make you stand as a professional.
“Once you come in as a professional, the regulations binding on professionals in the associations of professional interest will be binding on you.
“At the moment we have instances of too many people coming in through the back door.
“So in total, what we are looking at is professionalising the arts.’’
