ATBU to graduate 8,495 students

Bauchi, May 3, 2018 (NAN) The Vice Chancellor of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi, Prof. Saminu Ibrahim, says the university will graduate 8,495 students at its forthcoming convocation on May 12.
Ibrahim announced this on Thursday at a pre-convocation news conference in Gubi campus in Bauchi on the activities of the combined 23rd, 24th and 25th convocation ceremony of the school.
He said the convocation lecture would hold on Friday, May 11, with the lecture titled “Enhancing Industry/University Collaboration to support Nigeria Local Contents in Industrialisation and Economic Growth.
The lecture would be delivered by the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Maikanti Baru, at Yelwa campus of the institution.
“There are total of 8,495 graduands made up of 480 diplomas, 5,637 first degree,1, 518 PGD, 770 for Masters and 90 for Ph.Ds.
“Out of the 5,687 first degree graduands, 118 obtained first class, 116 obtained second class upper, 2,609 got second class lower, 1,231 got third class and 61 got pass,” he said.
The vice chancellor said that the convocation lecture would be chaired by a former vice chancellor of the institution.
Ibrahim said the institution had started its College of Medical Science with 41 students admitted during 2016/2017 session, while 47 students were admitted in 2017/2018 session.
Other achievements according to Ibrahim, are the construction of additional three hostels in Gubi campus and two in Yelwa campus to ease the problems of accommodation in the University.
He said said that visitors expected at the occasion would include President Muhammadu Buhari, the Governor of Bauchi State, Muhammed Abubakar and Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu. (NAN)
