Association warns Nasarawa youths against violence, drug abuse

Lafia, May 3, 2018 (NAN) The Shabu Youths Movement (SYM) has warned youths in Nasarawa state to shun violence, drugs abuse and other social vices in the interest of their individual development.

Mr Musa Ali, the President of the Association, made the call in Lafia on Thursday in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) after the association sensitisation campaign on drug abuse among youths in the area.

He said that drug abuse and other social vices had negatively affected the education of many Nigerian youths.

He said that the association decided to organise the programme to educate youths on the danger of drug abuse on their individual development.

Ali also called on the youth to avoid violence and engage in meaningful ventures that would make them contribute to national development.

“As an association, we decided to organise this sensitisation campaign to educate youths on the danger of drug abuse, and its effects on societal development.

“In view of this, I want to appeal to Nigerians especially the youths to avoid drug abuse, violence, hard drugs, social vices and violence.

“Youths are the engine room, pillar, foundation, backbone, agent of change and vanguard of peace of any nation, hence, the need for them to invest more on their personal development by acquiring knowledge and skills

“They also need to engage in meaningful ventures in order to be self-reliant and to contribute their quota to national and individual development,” he said.

The president of the association also called for collective efforts among concerned Nigerians to tackle drug abuse, other social vices considering its negative effects on the society.

He urged youths to always respect constituted authorities, be law abiding and live in peace, irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political affiliations.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that many youths of the area that attended the sensitisation campaign, lauded the association’s effort in educating them on the danger of drug abuse. (NAN)
