Association tasks members on dedication

Association tasks members on dedication to duty NAN-HG-9 Dentists By Mohammed Lawal Zaria (Kaduna State), Dec. 7, 2016 (NAN) Mr Dats Ibrahim, the Zonal President, Nigeria Dental Therapists Association (NDTA), North, on Wednesday charged dentists on renewed dedication to meet collective interests.

He gave the task at the association’s Second General Meeting held at Shehu Idris College of Health Technology, Makarfi, Kaduna State.

The zonal president charged members to secure high respect from the society, which he said, comes with the need for greater cooperation and unity in line with the decorum and prestige of the profession.

“By implication, this also means that the NDTA needs to operate as a smoothly functioning system.

“Unfortunately, there is always a challenge, where people are concerned, because people are all different and like to do things their way.

“Notwithstanding, we still have the collective task to improve the NDTA systems and by and large, the overall ranking of the dental therapy profession,” he said.

According to him, for any trade or labour union to succeed in discharging its primary responsibilities, it must establish and maintain a culture of unity, agreement and harmony.

“Establishing such a culture begins and ends with mutual respect and trust among the various stakeholders, who have vested interest in the profession.

“Within the NDTA leadership, creating this sense of unity involves having each fellow comrade feel wanted, supported and valued for their importance within the dental therapy community.

“Thus, NDTA leaders at all levels are obliged to establish and maintain a positive and supportive culture as their first order of business, if every member is to be able to realise his or her potential,” he said.

Ibrahim observed that any behaviour(s), action(s) or inaction(s) that divide members of the profession or its leadership, would certainly undermine the sense of unity and result in a negative effect upon the entire members.

“It is my belief, fellow comrades, that our approach to achieving the objective principles of our respected profession, requires working together to solve problems and make improvements.

“I make case for more understanding, trust and renewed dedication to living up to our collective and individual expectations in place of grumbling and attempts at sowing seeds of dissent and friction,” he said.

He enumerated some objectives of the meeting to include filling the national vacant positions created by the unfortunate exit of some colleagues.

Others, he said, were consolidating the recently elected state executive positions and reviewing action on states that didn’t have executives in place and proposing a deliberate scheme for fostering greater unity.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting was attended by the Katsina State Chairman of the NLC, Mr Tanimu Lawal, as Special Guest.

Other delegates were Malam Bashir Saulawa and officials of NDTA from Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, Niger, Kaduna and Bauchi states. (NAN) KLM/MST/MST
