Benin, Feb. 27, 2017. (NAN) The Edo National Association Worldwide (ENAW), says 2,730 persons in 12 communities in Edo benefitted from its free medical programme.
Mrs Mercy Grant, the Chairperson, Medical Missions, ENAW, disclosed this on Monday in Benin in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
She said that the communities are spread across Ehor, Esan South East, Esan North East, Esan Central, and Akoko Edo local government areas.
Grant said that 2,010 hypertensive and 520 diabetic patients were treated during the medical outreach.
She said that special cases such as treatment of wounds and examination of children with heart defects were also undertaken during the mission.
The chairperson said that none of the 2,730 patients treated had HIV/AIDS.
She said that the association also donated cash and bags of rice to the poor and medications to health facilities in the communities.
Grant added that the association distributed condoms to commercial sex workers found around the communities visited.
She, however, said that the major challenge encountered was non-compliance of hypertensive patients with their medications.
The chairperson called on other associations and NGOs in the country to provide such services in the rural communities.
She said that health needs of the people in the country, especially those living in rural areas were enormous. (NAN)
