Ibadan, Dec. 5, 2016 (NAN) The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, on Monday donated hospital consumables to the Children Emergency Paediatric Department of the hospital.

The President of the association, Dr Luqman Ogunimi, said that the gesture to give back to the society was part of the activities to observe the 48th annual general meeting of the association.

The consumables, which were received by a matron in the department, included intravenous fluids, cannula, IV given sets, methylated spirit, surgical blades, cotton wool and some antibiotics medications.

Ogunimi said that the choice of donating to the children’s emergency ward was as a result of investigations which revealed that majority of parents could not afford the hospital bills.

“We also felt it is our corporate social responsibilities to give back to the society because we are the one seeing the patients; we know what the problem actually is.

“Some patients cannot afford to pay for medication; children are the future leaders of tomorrow and so, this gesture will serve as a sort of relief to them and their parents.’’

On persistent strikes by the association, Ogunjimi said that the hospital’s management had yet to tackle the problems of salary arrears.

He appealed to the management of the hospital to attend to the urgent need for more resident doctors for effective and efficient service delivery. (NAN)
