Association cautions butchers against slaughtering sick animals for sale

Keffi (Nasarawa state)July 11, 2018 (NAN) The National Association of Butchers, Keffi chapter, Nasarawa state has cautioned butchers against slaughtering sick animals for public consumption.

The chapter chairman of the association, Mr Ayuba Tanko, gave the caution in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Keffi.

Tanko said that slaughtering of sick or dead animal was not good for consumption, adding that the association would deal decisively with any butcher found culpable in the act, to serve as deterrent to others.

He also advised butchers to always keep their abattoir clean in the interest of the health of their customers.

The chapter chairman reminded the butchers that a clean environment would always attract more customers, ensure their safety and their customers.

“I am appealing to butchers to always keep their business or their abattoir environment clean in the interest of the health of the people, “he said.

Tanko reiterated the commitment of the association to continue to sensitise its members on the need to slaughter only healthy animals for consumption.

He also appealed to the state government to put abattoirs in good shape to boost the sale of meat. (NAN)
