Asaba, Feb. 22, 2017 (NAN) Elder Emmanuel Moweta, President Asaba Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ASACCIMA) says the chamber has concluded plans to embark on a trade mission to Malaysia and Singapore.

Moweta made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Asaba.

He said that the visit would afford members of the chamber  an opportunity to meet with their counterparts for possible business partnerships that would assist in developing Nigeria’s economy.

Moweta expressed optimism that the visit which was scheduled for May 2017, would help boost the agricultural sector as well as small scale industries since Malaysia and Singapore were known for industrialised agriculture.

The president explained that the visit would also help create employment for the people of the state through the establishment of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises.

He, however, decried irregular electricity supply in Asaba, but expressed delight that there was an improvement in road infrastructure in the city.

Moweta advised the state government to adopt the Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement in the area of road infrastructure as it had been adopted by the Lagos State Government.

This, he said, was critical to improve road networks across the state.

He, however, applauded the state government on its efforts at diversification the state’s economy, but stressed that there was need to do more.

“It should not only end in seminars and workshops, we want to see government in action,” he said.

Moweta recalled that the Ekiti State Government recently declared that it would clear about 500 hectares of land and allocate same to farmers in all the local government areas of the state.

He said by the action, the Ekiti state government was already encouraging more people, especially youths, to embrace agriculture by providing them with necessary amenities.

“We want to see things like that in our state, this would go a long way in attracting young school leavers and unemployed youths to go into agriculture,’’ he said.

He also called on the state government to provide more tractors to mechanised farmers in the state to increase productivity. (NAN)
