Army to provide more support for children immunisation in Borno

Maiduguri, May 27, 2017(NAN) The Nigerian Army on Saturday promised that it will continue to provide support for the immunisation of children in the remote areas in Borno.

The Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC), 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Brig.-Gen. Ibrahim Yusuf, made this promise, while receiving officials of the Borno State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SPHCDA).

The SPHCDA team paid him a courtesy visit at the Headquarters of the Division in Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.

Lt.-Col. Samuel Kinsley the Deputy Director Army Public Relations Department stated this in a statement in Maiduguri.

Kinsley quoted Yusuf as commending the agency for its zeal and commitment towards eradication of Polio in Nigeria.

“He described polio virus as an enemy of mankind which has rendered millions of people handicapped around the globe”.

Yusuf pledged to provide all necessary security support needed to access children within the Division’s area of responsibility in the state.

“The Division will provide security cover for your team to access all children,” he said.

Earlier in his remarks, the leader of the team, Executive Director SPHCDA, Dr Sule Meleh had congratulated the GOC on his recent appointment to command the Division.

He said Nigeria was very close to being certified a Polio free nation before new cases were discovered in Borno.

He appreciated the cordial relationship between SPHCDA and 7 Division.

He was accompanied by UNICEF Access Secretary, Mr Tekende Mckechnie, representative of World Health Organisation, retired Col. AU Gregory and Project Manager, Health Africa, Mr Momoh John. (NAN)
