Abuja, Nov. 6, 2016 (NAN) An FCT High Court on Tuesday adjourned ruling in the bail application of Kelechi Isaac, 31, in an alleged armed robbery case after a year in detention.
Justice Abubakar Talba of FCT High Court adjourned the ruling for the bail made by Issac’s defence counsel, Alexander Ayuk, to Dec. 20.
The prosecutor, Ijeoma Ukagba, who did not oppose the bail application, however, prayed the court to grant the bail on stringent conditions.
The defendant had pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery when he was first arraigned on July 29, 2015.
The defence counsel said that the case had suffered many adjournments even though the former counsel had filed motion in notice for the bail.
He said this was due to the fact that the counsel was not available to proceed with the case.
Earlier, the prosecutor had told the court that Chidi Okwashi and seven others reported the matter at Kuje police station on March 6, 2015.
She said the complainants alleged that a group of six robbers invaded their compound in Abuja, damaged their burglary proof and stole some items.
The items included N40,000 cash, a plasma television, a Gionee mobile phone, one android phone, an FCMB ATM card, a Nokia mobile phone and First bank ATM cards.
The total value of items stolen was estimated at N121,400, Ukagba said.
She also said that the Gionee mobile phone was recovered from the defendant where he intended to sell it and was arrested in the process.
“The remaining five suspects are still at large,’’ the prosecutor said.
She said the offence was contrary to sections 97 and 298 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
